THE BOESMANS RIVER IS THE 2ND LONGEST NAVIGABLE RIVER IN SOUTH AFRICA

Kenton On Sea is hugged by two rivers – the Boesmans on the west, and the Kariega on the east. This unique situation attracted the first settlers to the area for their annual holiday. Those were the days of the oxwagon and tents. The British settlers chose Kenton and the Afrikaner farmers camped on the Boesmans side. Many stories are told of the interactions between these two communties. Young men seeing a business opportunity by rowing house wives across the Boesmans River for their weekly shopping, as the only shops were on the Boesmans side. It included a small grocer, a butcher and a bottle store. Small wooden structures became permanent fixtures and families started a yearly ritual of vacationing in the area. Now the river banks are dotted with luxurious homes and cozy bed & breakfasts.

Meet Steve Tredoux, the current Chamber of Commerce Chairman and all-round business fundi. After decades of experience in senior management at MTN, Steve and his wife Jenni made Kenton their home seeking a quality life on the coast. But he is not sitting idle for a second. He owns the local Chas Everitt, as well as other business interests in town.

His humility and professionalism makes it easy to connect with over a cup of coffee and a pleasure to deal with in business.

Barrie is our local baker in a small artisanal bakery, stocking a range of products from freshly baked artisanal breads to locally produced cheeses and preserves! They have two stores in the Eastern Cape, one located in Kenton-on-Sea, and the other located in Grahamstown. They are proudly South African and try very hard to make sure all their products are produced locally right here in South Africa, and we are committed to sourcing the highest quality products from as close to home as possible.

Meet Francois Theron. He started FDT Architects 31 years ago and operates a truly global firm from this small coastal village. Francois and his team has completed over 1000 projects ranging from hospitals, 5 star game lodges, spectacular holiday homes and schools. His larger-than-life personality is contagious. Spending 10 minutes with this man puts a smile on your face!

Eugene & Ruleen are busy people! They own the popular Continental Restaurant & Deli, the local garage, a very busy take-away and a lovely gift shop. Ruleen is a full-time medical consultant with a raving client base, much like their awesome restaurant in the main street of Kenton.

They love to travel the world (this picture of them was taken in Norway on a recent trip). Pop in to say hello whenever you’re in town.
